HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KTLA) -- "Austin Powers" actor and former mixed martial arts fighter Joseph Hyungmin Son was convicted Thursday of torture in the Christmas Eve gang rape of an Orange County woman.
Son, 40, was arrested Oct. 7, 2008 on charges related the 1990 incident.
He was already in custody for an unrelated vandalism charge and was linked to the 1990 crime when he gave a DNA sample to authorities following a probation violation.

Amazing. The guy had the opportunity to be somebody and now he's going to spend 10 - 15 years in prison, which he deserves (at the least).
I hope the woman feels the justice system has adequately served her.

Though he was in a great movie, I don't think his scene throwing his shoe would have been enough to springboard him onto fame and fortune.
Amazing indeed Jerry! So many have it made these days and at the drop of a hat, end up throwing it all away. Could it be that mass media has bastardized "success", by leaving one with a sense of self entitlement in all situations?. I really wonder what makes so many actors, athletes etc.....flip out and throw it all away with some type of stupid act. He deserves more than 15 years by the way. It seems that the justice system did in fact serve the victim in the end. Let's hope she has received the mental health counseling that will no doubt be needed by anyone victimized in this manner. Have a good day Jerry. Thanks for the article Calvin!

Career success in no way rules out criminal violence, especially violence against women. In fact, there are many successful men who believe it is their "earned" right and male privilege to sexually exploit and abuse any woman they choose.

It is common place in the film industry as well, it seems. But no one ever has the right to do what he did, and I hope he rots in prison for the rest of his life for it.

Austin Powers came out 7 years after the rape. I don't know if he did anything before that movie.

I agree with you Loretta. This type of behavior is absolutely disgusting. I don't think he deserves any less than life without parole!!

Hi Calvin. You know I had to take a second look at this to make sure it wasn't a parody or something.
You know...like what The Onion sometimes does. And it wasn't. A good example on how justice can sometimes catch up to you even years later. (*thumbs up*)

It's amazing what DNA evidence can do so much later, on both sides of the judicial system (vindicating people as well as condemning them).

'Well that's kind of a depressing "where are they now"
Yeah. In jail. Time to sing the blues and watch reruns of Austin Powers. Have a few life-regrets along the way, maybe.
'Nobody knows...the trouble I seen...'
