The crustacean had made his home in the 600lb mine that had lain dormant on the seabed for 60 years. When divers stumbled across the bomb and alerted the coastguard, the clock was ticking for Lionel.

Navy divers who inspected the bomb tried to coax the critter out, but Lionel was unwilling to move and delivered a nasty nip to one diver's finger. The Royal Navy bomb disposal unit had no choice but to leave the lobster where he was and set charges to the mine.
